Hypoxico is proud to have installed a new system at The Ohio State University, specifically for their College of Medicine and the research of Dr. Dan Merfeld (Daniel Merfeld, PhD | Ohio State College of Medicine) in the Department of Otolaryngology as well as other Ohio State researchers.  As a frequent research partner with NAMRU (the Naval Medical Research Unit at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base), Dr. Merfeld is utilizing the new Hypoxico Altitude Chamber at Ohio State to conduct vestibular research under hypoxic conditions.

As part of the project, Hypoxico delivered a custom-built small modular chamber that utilized the existing space at the end of a hallway within their lab space.  Supplying this chamber is a fully controlled, sensor-driven, and adjustable system comprised of two Sierra 100 Altitude Generators.  These units are tied together and controlled with Hypoxico’s proprietary software that provides constant feedback, automatic adjustments, and the ability for simulated altitudes up to 15,000 feet above sea level. Dr Merfeld noted that, “We have recently discovered that mild hypoxia like that experienced at 8,000 feet appears to impact vestibular function; the Hypoxico chamber is a tool to continue these studies.”
